Another tough week to choose just one toon to feature, especially with the Republicans meeting in secret so they can axe the Affordable Care Act before the rest of us understand what they propose to replace it with. That they’re doing their best to keep it secret probably tells us all we need to know.
In any event, I finally settled on this cartoon by Steve Sack. Sack is the editorial cartoonist for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and a 2013 recipient of a Pulitzer prize for editorial cartooning. You can find more of his work here.
A colleague, Daryl Cagle, has said that Sack has a drawing style that “is sweet, young and charming; but the sweet look is deceptive, Steve is actually one of the harshest cartoonists, skewering his political targets with little mercy.”
What I like about this cartoon is that it perfectly captures a lot of what goes on in America these days. It isn’t what you stand for that gets judged. It’s how you package it.
