Chapter 8 …

lucky you

Chapter 8 is up. You can find it at The Annex. It’s still Christmas Eve and Brian is still at his office on Capitol Hill.

In the last chapter Brian seemed to hit rock bottom. From spending the day alone at the office contemplating his troubled past and unsatisfying career to experiencing the suicide of a friend, it’s hard to imagine things getting worse for him. But we know they could. In his despair, Brian had concluded that his life has been worthless. He wants to apologize to Eric yet again, but Eric is dead; as dead as a doornail as the saying goes. He’s been dead for years and Brian still misses him, still blames himself for his death. He falls asleep on the couch in his boss’s office contemplating his own suicide.

Is suicide what the future holds for Brian? We’ll begin to get an answer in this chapter. But as with most things in life, answers are hardly ever definitive. They’re always subject to being revisited. Brian may have hit rock bottom, but that’s hardly a guarantee things will get better. For things to get better something will have to change. Unless something changes, it’s hard to see how he can avoid following in John’s footsteps. But, then again, change is what life is all about, isn’t it?

In any event, have fun reading. As always, please feel free to share any comments you have at the end of the chapter or by sending me an e-mail to let me know what you think. And keep in mind that comments are only closed on this announcement, not on Chapter 8 itself. You can still comment there and I can’t get better as a writer unless you tell me what I’m doing right and what not.

And by the way, if you haven’t read my latest post below, you may want to do so, especially if you’re an American. I’m not doing very much blogging these days, but some things just can’t be ignored.
