Here is an interesting article from the New York Times about how American boys “are becoming more careful and more romantic about their first sexual experiences.”
As you might expect, the focus is pretty much on heterosexual American boys so how applicable this would be to LGBT youth is hard to say. However, some of the reasons cited for boys avoiding sex, like fear and “growing access to pornography via the Internet”, would presumably also apply to gay boys as well. For heterosexual boys, still another reason cited was their increased focus on loving and committed relationships.
Like I said, it’s hard to know whether the article is true, let alone relevant to the lives of LGBT youth. Let’s hope so. Comments from anyone would be welcome, especially from gay boys. (If you’re having trouble commenting, check out this post).
