You won’t have to scroll down too far to find a previous posting I had about a boy named Zach Huston who was viciously bullied in the state of Ohio. Or you can just click on that link above to find it 🙂
You’ll be pleased to know that the bully who carried out that attack has been sentenced to 90 days in a juvenile detention center for assaulting Zach. He has also been ordered to undergo mental health counseling and to continue his education while in detention. You can read more about the outcome of this case here. Let’s hope the kid gets the help he needs.
Zach Huston isn’t the only Zach in the news. One of the readers of this blog recently sent me a link to a video that some of you may have seen before. It’s a video of a young man named Zach Wahls, a 19-year-old University of Iowa student, speaking about the strength of his family during a public forum on House Joint Resolution 6. Wahls has two mothers and had come to oppose House Joint Resolution 6, which would end civil unions in Iowa.
This video went viral last February when it was originally posted. Now it has gone viral a second time now and you can view it here. It’s well worth a second look. One of the things that I like most about the video is that I have no idea whether Zach is gay, bisexual or straight. And you know what? I don’t really need to know that because I know all I really need to know without that information.
I know that Zach is an impressive individual. I know he was raised the right way by his parents. And I know that he’s right on the issue of marriage equality.
Unfortunately, despite his remarks, a Republican majority in the Iowa House of Representatives did pass the resolution to repeal marriage equality. To the best of my knowledge, it has not passed in the Iowa Senate. However, the struggle continues in Iowa, as it does in so many states.
Watch the video. Get involved! Make a difference!
